Here is a list of several main characters from AIO.  This isn't even close to a complete listing, as there have been hundreds of characters on AIO over the years.  This is only a sampling of characters who are most important to the series.

John Avery Whittaker ("Whit")
John Avery Whittaker is the central character of AIO (though most people call him "Whit"), and he has appeared on the show since its beginning.  Whit is a grandfatherly man who invents, and he also owns a discovery emporium called "Whit's End".  Whit's End is a popular hang out for the kids in Odyssey, and people of all ages go to Whit for advice.  Whit is adventurous, and he often finds himself in the middle of mysteries and unusual predicaments.

Tom Riley
Tom Riley is Whit's best friend, and he has also been heard on AIO since it first began.  Tom lives on a farm, where he operates "The Timothy Center," a retreat center named after his son who was killed in a boating accident.  Before opening this center, Tom served as mayor of Odyssey for several years.  Tom's wife Agnes suffers from a mental illness and lives in Hillingdale Haven, an institution where doctors are able to give Agnes and other patients the attention they need.

Connie Kendall
Connie Kendall is in her 20s, and she has been working at Whit's End since age 15.  When she and her mother first moved to Odyssey, Connie wasn't a Christian.  Due to the influence of Whit and other Christians in Odyssey, she eventually accepted the gospel.  Connie enjoys working with kids, and kids love being around her as well.  Not only is Connie a Whit's End employee, but she also works at the Timothy Center.

Eugene Meltsner
Eugene Meltsner is very intelligent and somewhat geeky.  People often have a hard time understanding Eugene's speech because of his large vocabulary.  Eugene attended Campbell College for several years, and he later got involved in a research project to convert brain waves into radio waves.  A company called Andromeda stole the research from him.  Andromeda no longer exists, but Eugene and his wife Katrina were in hiding from the former leaders of Andromeda for several years.  Eugene was not heard on the show during that time, but his recent return caused much excitement.

Katrina Shanks Meltsner
Katrina went through a long relationship with Eugene before marrying him.  Like Eugene, she is a very intelligent person.  She is also kind and fairly quiet.  She comes from a rich family.  Her father passed away shortly after her wedding with Eugene, but Katrina's mother is still alive and well.

Jack Allen
Like Tom, Jack is one of Whit's very good friends.  He and Whit have known each other since childhood.  Jack worked at Whit's End for several years while Whit was on an archaeological dig in the Middle East.  After Whit's return, Jack married Joanne Woodston, and the couple now operates a business called the "J & J Antique Gallery."

Jason Whittaker
Jason Whittaker, Whit's son, moved to Odyssey while Whit was on his archaeological expedition in Israel.  Jason took care of Whit's End while Whit was away.  Before moving to Odyssey, Jason worked for the National Security Agency.  He is now a missionary, but he still returns to Odyssey when he is not on assignment.

Nick Mulligan
Nick Mulligan is another employee of Whit's End.  Nick moved from New York in order to live with his aunt and uncle in Odyssey.  Nick's family adopts wild animals.  Nick is not a Christian yet, but Aubrey Shepard and others have attempted to witness to him.

Wooton Bassett
Wooton Bassett is one of Odyssey's mail deliverers.  He is a fun but wacky person.  He is a Christian, and he loves to be around people.  Wooton is a very popular citizen of Odyssey.

The Washington Family
Ed Washington, a former employee for a toy manufacturing company, now manages Whit's End Connelsville.  Ed has a creative personality, and the kids in Connelsville are very fond of him.  His wife's name is Elaine.  Ed and Elaine have three children, and they are caring for their nephew Xavier while his mother sorts out some problems.   Marvin Washington is one of Ed and Elaine's children.  His older brother Antowan is in college, and his sister's name is Tamika.  Marvin has an active imagination and enjoys playing detective.  He also plays the drums in his spare time.
